Even after all this time, and numerous successful appearances by Dean in almost every media market, whenever the subject of a 2008 campaign comes up, someone is always waiting to pour water on the festivities, dourly reminding us of the "Dean Scream."
Just so you know where I stand, I love the Dean Scream. I immediately made a shirt that said "Dean Screams For Me." I collected all the videos and sound bites that appeared all over the internet, those that embellished the scream in humorous ways. I just never did see it as a negative. I do realize that others did, and still do.
So, if the scream isn't going to go away, any future Dean campaign needs to deal with it. I loved hearing that Dean did a Yahoo! advertisement, using the scream. I relish hearing about the times when Dean has screamed again for some group he's speaking to. He's handling it right, in my opinion.
Embrace the scream. Own the scream. My biggest regret is that Dean couldn't somehow copyright the scream. The royalties alone would have financed his next campaign.
